There Is No Such Thing As Right Or Wrong

I am a Techno Geek who spends a lot of time in what some people call the "Wu Wu" world. I am a huge believer that Science and Technology can be used as Positive tools to fix many of the problems in this world. I also am a huge believer that our current way of Spirituality, Religion, is completely broken, and we have outgrown it, and that Science can give us better ways of seeing the Spiritual in our Universe. And is doing so.

And, over the years, I have heard the phrase that is the title of this piece, "There is no such thing as right or wrong" many times.

I was having a discussion earlier with someone, a very enjoyable discussion over all, and this person said that. I was in listening mode for the most part and as they went on and talked about how it worked in their life I just took it all in.

And I was really surprised by how this, otherwise very intelligent, person was disconnected from the reality of the world around us.

As an intellectual exercise there is nothing wrong with this idea. It can, in an intellectual sense, help make sense of things. I personally do not recommend it for any purpose. And yet I can see how it might be useful in some settings.

Yet, in Reality, there is most definitely Right and Wrong. Good and Evil. Light and Dark. Or however else you want to put.

I know there is because I look around us at the world that we are in and I can see it. There are acts being done every moment that are Right, that are Good. And, there are acts being perpetrated every every moment that are Wrong, that are Evil.

I invite every single person who believes that there is no such thing as Right or Wrong, Good or Evil, to go tell the Parents and Children who are undergoing Genocide at the hands of the State of Israel in Gaza that "There is no such thing as right or wrong".

I invite every single person who believes that there is no such thing as Right or Wrong, Good or Evil, to go tell the Parents and Children who are undergoing Invasion and Death by Bombing of Civilian Targets in Ukraine that "There is no such thing as right or wrong".

I invite every single person who believes that there is no such thing as Right or Wrong, Good or Evil, to go tell the people who have been Kidnapped and Human Trafficked to a Concentration Camp in Central America by ICE that "There is no such thing as right or wrong".

I invite every single person who believes that there is no such thing as Right or Wrong, Good or Evil, to go tell the ghosts of all the people who were taken to the Central European Industrial Killing Sites by Hitlers SS and Efficiently Slaughtered that "There is no such thing as right or wrong".

I could go on and I suspect you get the idea.

There is Right and Wrong in this world. There is Good and Evil.

Look at the world around us. Study the History of Humanity.

There is more than enough evidence to show that this is so.

So, what is Bad and/or Evil in actuality? What does it look like in the world?

At it's most base level Bad/Evil is Intentionally Causing Others Pain. The example that comes to mind is "I feel bad so you must also" type of thing.

Verbally tearing down someone to belittle and shame them.

Intentionally Causing Harm whether Mental, Physical, Emotional, or Spiritual. Any Harm.

With one exception.

If someone tells me something that I do not want to hear, where I am acting in a manner that causes harm to others or myself in some way, and I get butt hurt over it, then that is, in my view, the one exception to that rule.

The exception to the exception being when someone is being "brutally honest. In my experience so called brutal honesty has nothing to do with honesty and everything to do with brutality. True honesty comes from a place of Love, Respect, and a desire to help. In my opinion.

Destroying for the sake of destroying. Whether it is a on a Micro Level or a Macro Level. The most obvious example of this is the Destruction of our Global Environment for the Profit of a very few. I am sure that you can think of a few for yourself.

And there is so much harm being caused to people in this world right now. Being done intentionally. By Individuals. By Groups. And by Governments.

So what does Right/Good look like in this world?

It looks like Community. Taking care of each other as members of the Human Community. Any act of service to another, whether on the Micro or Macro scale is Right or Good.

And, the exception, because for everything there is, I think, sometimes we must let people follow a painful path and not soften the results so that they may experience what ever level of pain that they need to experience to heal themselves.

An example of this is not rescuing the drug addict in the streets until they ask for help. Knowing that their death could be the result.

I am reminded of a song that was big on the radio when I was young. I was called "Cruel to Be Kind" by Nick Lowe. And the chorus went like this:
"You've gotta be cruel to be kind in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind means that I love you
Baby
You've gotta be cruel to be kind"

I have always had a problem with that song. To me it sounds like a glorification of being "Brutally Honest". If it is not that then, if it is talking about being honest in the face of denial, and letting people experience what they need to in order to begin healing, knowing they are going to experience pain and might never get there, then there are times when it might look like kindness is cruelty. I am still ambivalent about this song.

So we, as Human Beings, get faced with a choice every single moment of our lives. Who am I going to be in this moment? Am I going to be kind and care for and about others and act with love and empathy? Or am I going to be selfish and care only for myself and act with self centered fear? Those choices define who we are.

So folks, do YOU acknowledge that there is Right and Wrong, Good and Evil, in this World? Do YOU make a Conscious Choice in the moment as to who you are Being?

Are YOU acting with Love and Empathy or Self Centered Fear?

I myself do my best to act in the former. All to often I still get caught in the latter.

May the Force be with us All 🙏
